Hi Mike, Not here in Jersey (since it's not a powerboat or sailboat). I'm amazed that PA requires them to be registered but I need to get more info on the matter because I'm looking to take a run on the Lehigh and need to know what type of boats need to be registered (eg kayaks or even rafts?)...Can you help?
PS I just looked up the Jersey requirements to confirm that non-motorized inflatables, racing shells, surfboards, canoes and kayaks (no matter the length) do not require registration but apparently non-motorized rowboats over 12 feet in length need to be registered. |

The way I understand it is if you use a penn. boat and fish commission access area or state park lake you need a launch permit . canoe, kayak as far as rafts I know at a state park last year I overheard the ranger explaining that the raft needed a certain amount of chambers not including the floor of raft to go on lake and he needed a launch permit.

Does that apply to racing shells? Mine is 20 feet long. I only row on Mantua Creek. I have never seen any "authority" on that body of water. Steve Fries |
