While the Brandywine isn't quite dug out yet, and Bel Haven has canceled the paddle portion of the Bel Haven Buddies thing on Saturday (but the seminar is not canceled), I think some of the Rancocas is still doable tomorrow. I checked out a few of the launches, and the two at Smithville Park (in Eastampton) have parking, the launch at Mt. Holly does not have parking yet (they plowed walls of snow at the entrance to the main parking area). The Smithville launches are still covered in snow, but they are not so steep as to make them impossible to use, but caution will be required.
I am planning on paddling up from Smithville for an hour or so, then turn around and float back. I will probably start around noon or so. If anyone else is interested in coming along I can schedule it as an official meetup. Obviously this is going to require cold weather gear (wet suit/dry suit), especially given the higher-then-normal chance of falling in when launching or taking out, thanks to the snowy ramp. The Rancocas is ice free, and flow rate is slightly above normal (but not as fast as the Jan 31st on the Rancocas), but this could increase as snow melts. |
