We are going to take a trip down the Rancocas from Burlington County College to Iron Works Park in Mount Holly. This is a 14 mile one-way trip that should take about 4-5 hours to complete, including a stop for lunch (so make sure you bring one!). This is an easy paddle on a comfortably wide obstruction free river, novice paddlers are welcome. It is also suitable for all boat lengths. We will meet at Iron Works Park in Mount Holly at 10:00am, with the goal of having a shuttle set up and being on the water by 11:00am.
We will set up the shuttle the day of the paddle when we meet at the takeout. There ARE several portages along this route, so be prepared to do them (mental note to self... bring shoes).
There is no rentals available for this paddle, but I am able to bring one extra boat if you ask me in advance. Because this is a county park, PFD's are required. This paddle will be held rain or shine, but in case of extreme weather, there will be a posting on the website by 8:30am the morning of the paddle, and if there are any questions, then you can feel free to call me at 410-507-5504.
A map of the Rancocas Creek Canoe Trail (which is the county name for the route we are following) can be found on the Burlington County Parks page here:

Thanks to Hack for a well run trip. Thanks to Don, Jason, and 1 other who helped with my first attempt at a full floating entry that didn't go as planned. A great group who we will paddle again and again with now that our arms have recovered!
Had a great time on my first DVK trip. Nice to meet everyone. thanks for organizing. I'll post some pics when I get around to it this weekend hopefully.
I have a pickup with rack on top and will go to takeout a little early to help with shuttles to BCC put-in. Looking forward to doing the Rancocas and glad I finally have time to join the group again.
NOTE: We have discussed arranging a take out at Smithville at the 9.5 Mile mark for those of you do not want to go the full distance.
This will be decided when we meet at the site.
Hi everyone - this is the first meetup I'm able to participate in and I'm really looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow! I'll be in a red Pungo 120 - *please* introduce yourself.
Jason P - thanks for the post with the GPS-able address and directions
We can bring 1 boat w/ paddle and vest if anyone needs.
For the folks who want a GPS-able address, the address for the school next to the launch is 100 Wollner Drive Mt Holly, NJ 08060. Drive past the school, the launch is at the parking lot on your right, near the batting cages.
my boat is loaned out!
I did Rancocas today, it moved okey, absolutely no obstruction. I did not have any trouble finishing it.
the speed of the river depends on the amount of rain we've had. it can be fairly fast (or slow). if you're really worried about keeping up, we can put a vehicle at another takeout just in case.
Is this fairly quick moving water? I only ask because the BHP overnight camp trip on the Mullica was 12 miles. I want to go but also want to be sure I have the stamina to get to the end with the rest of the group.
