Are you new to kayaking? Want to learn a little more about the basics? Curious about different types of boats? Have some questions you want to ask about kayaking or the group itself? This is the event for you!

Come on out to Parvin Lake for a day geared just for you, whether you have your own boat and want to brush up on some of the basics, or you are still deciding on what boat to get. Rental boats will be available through Al & Sam's at the lake, and we'll have several different types of boats available for you to demo if you are curious.

We'll meet at Fisherman's Landing. At 1pm, we'll start with an off-water discussion about the necessary gear and goodies needed for entry level kayaking. We'll also discuss basic safety issues.

Next, we'll discuss some of the basic boat types, and have a variety of our personal boats available for you to test paddle. This is a good way to get a feel for different types of boats and can help you decide what type to look for if you are still shopping around.

After the demos, we'll spend some time on the water going over basic strokes and kayaking form. Those who do not have their own boats yet can rent from Al & Sam's.

This is, obviously, a beginner friendly paddle for all levels. If you are an experienced kayaker, feel free to join us to help out and share your knowledge.

If you are planning to rent a boat, please contact Al & Sam's ahead of time to reserve one.

Map of launch site. Please note - Fisherman's Landing is on Parvin Mill Road, it's the park offices that are on Almond Road. Please meet us at the Landing on Parvin Mill Road.

We will start promptly at 1pm, please allow time to find parking and unload any boats and gear you may have before the event time.

The water will still be a bit chilly, so please bring a dry set of clothes and a towel, just in case. :)

Questions or problems the day of the event? Contact me at 856.308.1974.

A good day....thanks Meri for organizing and also to Lauren and Scott for all the information ! My daughter and 2 granddaughters had great timing and came in at the end of the presentation just in time for some paddling...have to get the 8 yr. old back out soon though...have no idea what freaked her out or whether she was just tired...she just kept asking me "Why does that man keep going underwater??" lol...I tried to explain without scaring her that he was just praticing getting wet !

Hoping to have another great day tomorrow for Beginner Kayaker Day, but there are some thunderstorms in the forecast. So far, they look to be arriving later in the evening so we should be good to go. In case there are any major changes to the forecast, any cancellation/rescheduling will be made by 9am. I doubt we'll have to worry about it, but just be sure to check the site before you head out tomorrow.

    •  I learned a lot and have a better idea of what I need to get and what kind of kayak I want. Got out on the water for the first time. Thanks for all the information and the help esp. once I was out there.
    •  Thanks so much for all the useful info!
    •  Thanks to everyone who came out both to help and to learn. We had a great day and a great turnout. Looking forward to running more of these in the future.

A great first kayak. After Meri, Scott and Lauren's informative training, us newbees paddled a few hours on scenic Parvin Lake past a swan the size of Texas, turtles and something resembling a baby Loch Ness Monster. It was grand.
    •  Wonderful presentation ...thank so much guys for doing this one !!
