As the tittle states, this is going to be a long and delightful day.
under my calculations this trip is going to be more or less 6 Hours total. There
are 15 Miles on the water, 16 Miles shuttle to be cover by car, plus the lunch brake.
We are going to see the junction of the Lehigh and Delaware River, some nice beaches, marshes, beautiful houses and things. Also we will pass couple of mini-islands shape by the river.
We will meet at Upper Black Eddy access ramp ( Take out ) near Frenchtown, leave couple of cars there, set up a shuttle to the put in, which would be Phillipsburg
boat ramp, and then come down the River with the stream in our favor.
The trip is suitable for ALL levels and yaks sizes.

OKAY : The trip has been CANCELLED. I have contacted the Fire deparment in Upper Black Eddy / PA, and they have told me the RISKS are SERIOUS. I have holded the decisition until the last hour, because I really wanted to do it, but there are too many signs from you and oficial sources that tell me DON"T DO IT.

Been eyeballing the rivers on the way to MD today and they are VERY full. Apparently our adventure with the uprooted trees was only a third as high as tomorrows forecast crest. Since I'd rather live to kayak another day I'm switching to a No.

Aww, you guys always back out when it's likely someone will die. That's when the river is the most fun!

Be careful if the trip is still on, the stage now is about 9' by Sunday 16' to 18' plus. Check out the following sites: http://newweb.erh.noaa.gov/... http://waterdata.usgs.gov/n... Rick

Conditons are going to be rough for Sunday ; fast and deeper river with some possible obstacles in our way down. MY PERSONAL POSITION IS A GO and I will, but I understand that anyone will take THEIR own decisitions and risks.

My heart says yes, but my head says no. I agree on erring on the side of caution unless someone with experience on this portion of the river with these conditions says this trip can be safely navigated.

I have to admit, I'm a bit leery of paddling with the river so high. While a fast current can be fun, flood stage rivers can be very dangerous. We'd have less time to react to obstacles, and there is a much larger chance of dangerous obstacles such as obstructions and strainers. It's not uncommon to see entire trees swept downriver. Plus, at that height and speed, recovering from a capsize can be difficult if not impossible. Much as I love a fast river, I'd rather err on caution's side.

I don't have enough experience to say if this is going to be a dangerous situation. Part of me thinks that the water will just be deeper and faster, which isn't a big deal on a wide straight river...but then I think about what happens if I get pinned against a tree or some other debris, either when I am in the boat or out. That could be fatal with this current, I don't know if that is a legitimate risk. Hopefully someone with experience can say if we are suicidal, or just in for a challenge.

TO EVERYONE : My adventure spirit tells me to GO. I don't think we are going to face a DANGEROUS situation. Please let me know what you are thinking, because I will GO, but not ALONE. Thanks.

The latest gauge forecasts have been posted, expected crest is at around 7pm on Sunday, with a height of 19.1' (119000 cfs) at Trenton. Flood stage is 20' in Trenton, but some local roads will already be flooding before this point. Some of the islands in the river will be flooded as well. I have no idea if we have to worry about clearances under the bridges, or parking areas being flooded.

Hello Jim : It will be a pleasure to have your company. The meet up place would be the one we used last January. Everything tell us that we are going to paddle this Sunday.

The current gauge forecasts show the river going up about 7-8 feet by Sunday morning (no forecast for Phillipsburg yet, it should crest before the other gauges). The nearest gauge with historical data is Trenton, the June 25th trip was about 35000 cfs (about 13', assuming the rating curve didn't change much), on Sunday the forecast is 88000 cfs (17'). This is not flood stage in Frenchtown or Trenton, another 3-4 feet would be needed to reach that point. I will keep an eye on the forecast.

Well, I will just cry me a river, then I will paddle that this weekend. One way or another I am paddling this weekend. In all seriousness, are we meeting at the site that we put in on the New Year's Day paddle or is it further up river?

Jason : Could you please check the water gauge level for the Delaware for next sunday, I am not good with those. Also, if everyone is agree we can let one car at Kingwood access and other one or two in Upper black Eddy, just in case we want to do the longer trip. The meet place still is going to be Upper black Eddy.
