Our June camping trip takes us to the scenic Juniata River. We'll be staying at the Buttonwood Campground, which is right on the river. Buttonwood has its own canoe & kayak livery and will rent boats as well as transport private kayaks. There are several river trips available, we'll decide on one closer to the date. Buttonwood will handle the shuttle service for us for a small fee.

Plan to arrive on Friday, June 11. We'll set up camp and spend an evening around the campfire. Saturday morning we'll head out on our river trip. When we return to the campsite, we will have our pot luck dinner followed by more campfire fun.

Sunday morning, spend some time swimming in the river, relaxing over breakfast, and then head home at your leisure.

Buttonwood is a pet friendly campground, and also has cabins available for those who prefer not to sleep in tents.

We'll figure it out when we get there *laff* The campground is very helpful with the kayaking stuff.
Just an FYI..50% chance of Thunderstorms tomorrow..if they do appear, we got plenty of movies and card games to keep everyone dry and entertained!

Since the cost for renting a kayak (and transportation) for the Lewistown trip is only $34, I am going to make an uneducated guess that the $37 for just transportation would be a single group cost (to cover the mileage/time of the vehicle), not a per-person cost. Of course, this is just a guess.

Got the trailer hitched up and waiting in the school parking lot. ;) Bringing steak fajitas for Saturday's dinner. Sounds like it'll be a great weekend. Just need to run home on lunch and pick up Little Dog.

This campground is like Bull Island, quite literally on the river, so it shouldn't be hard to sort out transport. See you guys later :)

Was just going by what I saw on their website. I don't know if that's what it is for everyone, or if campers pay less. But under their trips and livery details, the long trips was $37.

If my back doesn't improve I might do livery and chill for the day, but I think the campground charge was something nominal like $5 or $10, it was cheap enough that we used it last time

fyi, the Lewiston to Buttonwood paddle livery charge is $37/boat. Going forward, I think we need to post these fees on the paddle description.

I see that the campground does "livery" for paddling. Do they charge for this? If so what is the cost?

looking at the river trips listed on their site, the Lewistown to Buttonwood one looks pretty good. http://juniatarivertrips.com/river_trips.htm It's pretty much from where we launched last year on down to this year's campground - estimated river time is 6 hours according to the site.

Jason: The campground runs livery to 3 pick up points. I don't remember where they are though. Probably because we drank our way down the river *LOL* When we get there we can check with them and then plan accordingly. See you Friday!

Anyone have a preference for what stretch of river to do? I think last year we did mile 46 (Lewistown) to maybe mile 38 (ramp that isn't on the map?). I would prefer a longer trip this year if other people are up for it (and the weather cooperates). If folks want to do different length trips, maybe we could set up the trip so a short run finishes at the campground, but a longer one would need a shuttle back?
