Bel Haven is hosting a FREE winter paddling safety seminar on January 17. This seminar will focus on hypothermia, winter weather gear, and water and river reading. The seminar runs from 9:30am until 10:30am. Attendees also get 20% off all gear purchased that day!
Following the seminar, there will be a Bel Haven Buddies paddle on the Wading River - check in at 10:30, depart for the river at 10:45. The paddle will be about 2 hours long and Bel Haven will provide transport - $5 for private boats, $10 for a rental.
Come on out for one or both of the events! Be sure to bring proper cold water gear and a PFD if you are attending the paddle.
Seminar was superb! Overall, I think that the group was maybe a bit too large/diverse for that kind of paddle. Stopping so often to "pull over" & wait for everyone to catch up was a bit frustrating & caused boats to crowd. 2 smaller groups would have worked better (we started out that way, but melded to one big group). Nevertheless, this paddle is one of my favs - a beautiful log flume ride, surrounded by crisp green, icicles hanging off branches, cranberries - crystal clear water. Mmmm!
I just called BHP and they said yes they will be going even if it is raining :( I was hoping they would post pone so I could go...guess not! have fun though.
“ Good information, and the drippy paddle was fun too. My dry suit actually lived up to it's name, that along with pogies and good head covering kept all the rain out. ”
“ The seminar was very informative. The river was running high and the rainy weather did not slow down this group. There were some goofy personal interactions on the water that caused unnecessary stress. Overall, a very enjoyable paddle. ”
“ Excellent seminar put on by Bel Haven personnel. I did not go on the paddle due to bad weather and horrific memories of past storms out on the river. ”
“ Another great day at Bel Haven. The info, as always, was wonderful, and the folks there friendly and accommodating as always. Although we skipped the paddle because of the weather, some of the more gung ho folks headed out. We stayed dry and shopped our hearts out instead. :) They have some great new gear and boats! ”

Jason, thanks for the photos (& the cookies!). It's fun to come home, unload the car & check out the pix on the website, with hot chocolate in hand.

The last paddle they had was in the rain
Victor - if the weather is nice, an extended paddle would be good, but if it rains I'll stick with the short one.
Lauren - I think the paddle is rain or shine, but I'm not sure.
If it rains are they going to postpone the paddle?
Hello everyone :
I like to keep going down the river until we reach the intersection Gold Decker rd and Pleasant Mill rd. Who is with me ?
