One of our members talked about crabbing from his kayak and I would like to talk to him about the type of gear he uses and what kind of kayak he has. I may assume he is not using your usual kayak (no room for gear) and may be using something like the WILDERNESS SYSTEMS Prowler Trident 13 Angler Kayak or Commander 120.0 Angler Kayak. In any case I will have the opportunity to crab in the Lewes, DE area as my brother purchased a beach house in the Bay area and I may want to give it a try from a kayak.

Its harder than you think... it really helps to be up off the water when crabbing. Clamming is the thing to do (Indian River bay is great for this in the Lewes area). Lash a clam rake to the deck, paddle out to a shallow spot, & put any clams you get into the cockpit! Crabs in the cockpit don't work as well. If you have a bulkhead / gear well, put some water in that & then add clams (season to taste). Mmm mmm good.

I imagine any sit on top would be ideal for this. You could easily lash a variety of gear to the deck (including somewhere to store the crabs), and the boats are very stable. Sit on tops are also great for going out around the shore (where you're likely to find crabs).
